It was lunch at the place where Mommy used to work!!!!!!
Yes, that statement deserves half a dozen exclamation points. At least, Nadia thinks it does. My little three year old was over the moon with excitement about this.
I was 15 when I started working at Culver's - my very first real job, other than babysitting. I honestly loved that job. I mostly worked at the drive-through, and I got such a satisfaction out of keeping everything running smoothly. Yes, I was an odd kid. :o)
So last week, Nadia and I stopped in for lunch there. This is the only Culver's location for miles around, and I hadn't been there in at least 6 years. It was a bit twilight zone-ish to see how much has changed but also how much is still the same - like, two of the people I used to work with, still working there! They remembered me, too.
Juicy Butter Burgers, crispy cheese curds, the best frozen custard anywhere, swiss melts to die for - I still know the menu like the back of my hand. But the one thing I really craved was a sweet and tart raspberry lemon cooler. So, we ordered a kids grilled cheese meal with two raspberry lemon coolers. Yum!
Nadia was one proud and excited little gal. "My Mommy used to work here!" she said to anyone who would listen. She enjoyed every bite and every minute spent there.
Which, of course, meant I too enjoyed every moment with my little sidekick.

I know exactly what you mean. I love little outings with Harper. There's just something about that Mother-Daughter relationship you can't beat. I love the story these photos tell.
aw how sweet! :) Adam likes to talk about the art store where I used to work (and Carey worked there, too!). He always asks to go to "the store where you worked, when I was in your belly." haha :)
yay, such a great lunch!!
OH, she is so cute! I love that she was telling everyone you worked there. :) Now, I feel a Culvers run coming on...
I too love my little sidekick. I got a good giggle out of N holding the cup up to show "Culvers" and the fact that she would tell anyone who would listen that you used to work there. Glad you's had a fun time!
oh girl....these photos are so colorful. Love it. the last two are my favs.
great story too. :) made me hungry.
I ♥ these photos! :) The blue seat makes the whole series pop. And I enjoy so much the way you work with selective focus.
Oh, that BLUE is heavenly. Seriously.
You and Nadia are in the mommy-daughter "sweet spot" I like to call it. Those moments that the world just clicks, it is all good and you can't imagine life any other way. Perfect age. Perfectly happy together.
And then....they get to be 1st graders. And leave you. And have a little sassy molassy side to them. The sweet spot is still there, I know it is, somewhere...I just have to hunt a little harder for it!
How cool Christine!!! My first real job was the drive thru at Dairy Queen, and I'm sure I can still whip up a killer Blizzard :)
Never been to Culver's...we have one a few miles down the road...must try it. THe fried curd things sound gross, but I'm sure are quite tasty :)
You know what, your girl is amazing - her zest for life & the maturity of the ideas in her head - you've done so much right, Christina!
I haven't posted in a while, but I just love looking at your pictures and I can't get over how big Nadia is getting! She is soooo beautiful!
How fun! That raspberry drinks look SO GOOOOD! We don't have a Culver's out here. Sadness - I would probably love those cheese curds.
that third shot of Nadia is SO Harrison! Oh. My. Gosh! He is such a ham sometimes.
Still wish you guys lived closer...
