Hymn of Thanksgiving

Good things come to those that wait...and our little church community has been waiting for a long time!!

Months after we thought our new temple would be finished, we are finally ready to start building. It's been a long process, fraught with setbacks, but the plans now have the City's official stamp of approval and we should be breaking ground any day. Yay! Earning the city's approval meant meeting a lot of additional requirements, and those unexpected extra expenses have come with a hefty price tag. As a result our building fund is now falling short of the actual costs. Donations would be most gratefully accepted, with eternal prayers for our benefactors offered in return!

Last week, we gathered before the Cross erected on the future site of our church to pray a service of Thanksgiving that we have reached this point.

Our little monkeys were happy to be out in the fresh (?? "hot" is more like it!) air and enjoy a little loser discipline than usual for church services. Sometimes it feels like we've been overrun with little girls! (not that we mind!!!)

This next photo of my sister's eldest was snapped literally a split second before she noticed an itty bitty teen tiny scratch on her hand. Some kids are very stoic and take such injuries in stride, while others are more dramatic. And that's all we'll say about that. ;o)

Through all of it, the service continued. (For those that don't know - my dad is our priest. That's him below)

We ended with a procession around the property to bless it with Holy Water.

There may have been a bit of sprinkling little girls with water too. But only maybe - not that the laughter of the girls below would be any clue.

It sure will be wonderful when the grassy field has been replaced by an actual church building.

May God grant that the next phase of construction will continue smoothly, and we can meet our goal to be in the new temple by the end of the year!

That's awesome! We're a few months behind you guys...it's so frustrating...but we had to get a new plot of land!!! Those photos are all fantastic! Your dad looks the same as he did 10 years ago. Please keep my dad in your prayers...he has Parkinson's disease and not doing well.

We're praying for the building process to go smoothly! You guys have been over run by little girls (mostly thanks to your sister and my brother)- but what adorable little girls they are and what a blessing they and Nadia are to everyone :-)

May God grant you all your hearts desires and may you all finish the building sooner than you expected!

My thoughts and prayers for the rest of the building process to go smoothly and quickly.

I imagine that an outside service would be a nice change on occassion... especially with a bit of holy water sprinkled on a hot hot day.

We're all about the girls here too. We've got our 2, my brother has 2, and Nick's brother has 2 (and 1 boy). Girls are the best!!!

That is wonderful that you are starting on building your new temple! Ah, those darn city's and their regulations. Bureaucracy at it's finest!

Love the pictures...especially the girls following your Dad and being blessed with holy water. :)

I love hearing (and seeing) about your church and religion. It's not something I know much about but you always manage to reveal bits and pieces with a mix of respect and light=heartedness that I love. Thanks!

I don't think I knew that your dad was a priest?! That is amazingly cool. The first photo of all of you by the cross is cool...and that might find a home in the new temple?

And the "that's all I will say about that" - had me cracking up! We have an other who is a bit more dramatic! I love that you are overrun by girls! There is no better way to be! :-)

Blessings on your new ground and for the future building. Can you explain to me why the Orthodox cross has two horizontal cross pieces?
Loved the bunch of flowers in that little hand!

That's a special story you've told. I can't wait to see the finished church!

The first picture of Nadia is so beautiful. The red is so striking yet the cross so dominant. Congratulations. Its so nice to pass over hurdles and feel like you are moving forward. The pictures tell a great story of the event, even if you didnt say any words. Want a joyous moment for you all!
