The sleeping-in-a-box picture

She would sleep in a box! She would sleep with a fox!

This picture from yesterday seems to be a smash hit. Yay, I'm glad you all love it as much as I do! I have a feeling this will remain one of my favorite pics of her of all time.
Some of you asked for the behind the scenes info, so here you go.

Focal length: 50mm (almost always use my nifty fifty)
Aperture: f/1.8
Shutter speed: 1/8 (0.125)
ISO: 400

The overhead light fixture in her room provided the lighting. Nadia is still a bit fearful at night and feels safer with both her "baby" flower light and the "mommy" overhead light on; it's not a habit I want to continue forever, but for now I let her keep the light on until she falls asleep. It has become a nightly routine for me to sneak into her room and snap a few pictures before turning off the light every night. I'd be afraid to wake her up by turning the light on to take pictures, so it works out well that she falls asleep with it on anyway.

And, in the interest of full disclosure: I sorta did arrange the scene. She and Ted had gotten in the box, and said she wanted to sleep there; I figured that as long as she's there she might as well be comfortable. So I gave her the pillow and blanket. And I scooted the box over about a foot, so it'd be in a better position for pictures if she did fall asleep there, but I didn't really expect it. I thought she'd be back in the bed before long. But she did fall asleep, and I had my sweet little scene.

This was the SOOC image. I didn't to much to it in post processing, just the basic stuff (for which I've now created actions, making it super quick and easy!). I think I also added a gaussian blur.

Here are a few more of her sleeping in the box, just cuz it's so dang cute. :o)

I turned the ISO up to 500 for some of these so I could use a faster shutter speed, which resulted in a fair bit of noise...but it's not too visible at this size.

The kid can sleep anywhere

All boxed in

Where there is Ted, there is her heart

Oh, and last night she was back to sleeping in the bed. Under the fitted sheet.

I didn't get a chance to comment on the previous post...oh. my. gosh...I love this picture!! Sooo funny! I was wondering about the lighting...Caden would N.E.V.E.R. stay sleeping if I turned a light on...so glad Nadia does so you could share this amazing picture!

Jacob is NINE and he still pulls this one. I don't know why they like it so much!

I'm telling you - get the girl one of those tents made to fit over a bed.

Actions?! You've created actions?! Are you going to share or are you going to charge for them? I bet you could make a bundle!

Yes - This picture is absolutley amazing. Sometimes you have to create the scene. Its awesome that it worked out. The other shots are great too. I love to see the before - post processing picture too. It was cute, but you really made it POP with the post processing. Great job. This is the sweet type of picture I would blow up and hang in my house.
