These late-night Mommy-Daughter sessions are becoming routine…and I can’t say I’m entirely upset about that. Part of me thinks “just go so sleep already, child!” but another part of me cherishes those sweet moments with my sweet girl. Nadia is never so tender and cuddly as she is in the dark of night.
Last night it was eleven o’clock and she was still awake. I went in to admonish her that it’s dark outside and time for night-night….and you know that whole-body wriggle of delight that puppies do? That’s what she did. She greeted me with grinning mouth and shining eyes and dancing feet and clapping hands and cries of joy. Well, there’s no way to say no to that. At least, there’s no way I can say no to that.
So I asked if she’d like me to rock her a bit, and she cried, “oh yes, Mommy, yes please!” Cradled in my arms, she wrapped her own arms around my neck and let her body mold itself to mine as we slow-danced around the room.
A few peaceful moments later she leaned back.
“Mommy?” she asked.
“Yes sweetie?” I murmered into the curls tickling my face.
“I love Mommy’s eyes.” And she gently touched each eye.
“I love Mommy’s nose.” And she stroked my nose.
“I love Mommy’s mouth.” And her baby fingers danced across my lips.
“I love Mommy’s cheeks.” And each of her hands came up to caress a cheek.
Ahh sweet girl! I love your eyes and nose and mouth and cheeks too. And your still-pudgy baby fingers, and the sweet bellybutton planted in the middle of a plump little belly, and those legs which are quickly changing from thunder-thigh baby leg status into the sleek and muscular legs of a little girl.
But most of all, I adore your sweet heart and loving nature. And I love the way you charm me, all of me, from the top of my head to the tip of my toes.

Oh Christina, this is one of the most precious mom posts ever. Your words painted the picture, made my heart smile...took me back. Thank you..and thank Nadia for me.
What wonderful moments you are having with Nadia. I know they are fleeting, so I have often given in to Harrison when he asks to sit in the rocking chair with me. I love when he wraps his whole body around me and holds on like there is no tomorrow! In THAT moment, there is NO tomorrow.
PS- was sitting next to me earlier and thought Nadia was a cutie, too! (I think he liked her bear too.)
aww man. That is so precious. ugh. I think they know what they do to us... so when they are up in the middle of the night, they know we don't want to be up, so they manipulate us with their cuteness! AH! And it works. sigh.
oh yeah, she's a charmer. she knows how to get what she wants! ;) just teasing- it is very sweet indeed!
Well, that is too precious! What a little sweetheart...and she sure knows how to charm her mommy. I love the late night snuggles, too. :)
Oh how sweet! It's hard late at night not to just be flat out annoyed and then they go and charm us!
Such a beautiful post. Nadia really is a sweetie. It's those times that help you get through those tough toddler tantrum moments!!!
i'm pretty close to losing it right now as I cut my "snuggle" short with Em so I could get out the door this afternoon and get some work done.
I'm uploading some files and thought I'd peek on some blogs as I wait. now I just want to run home and give her hugs and kisses.
so sweet. thanks for that reminder.
Absolutely precious, both Nadia and your telling of the moment.
You just took me back (again) to when I only had one sweet little girl like yours. Who I got to cuddle and treasure. I vividly recall moments like that - even without the exact words. Hold on to every morsel that you have with her. She is divine. I'm so glad you capture all this stuff on your blog. You'll be forever grateful one day too.
What an amazing time of ups and downs 'two' is. How they need you and push you away at the same time. Night time has always been our connection time. Even now. That's when the worries of the day come up for discussion. Phew...it makes my heart full to think of it. Beautiful post.
Pure sweetness...thanks for sharing! Have a great day!
Oh, that melts your heart!
You were one of the winners of the San Disk flash drive contest. Please send me your name and address to this email. If you want to give me a color preference, I will submit it, although I can't guarantee it.
Congrats!
That is so sweet - I don't think I could say no to that either!
Oh she's such a sweet little charmer! Enjoy the sweetness while it lasts! ; )
Oh Nadia, i think i love her to just hearing how sweet and wonderful she is. You have amazing girl there Christina (not like you don't already know that)
